Prescription Pouching for Clinics
A simple, complimentary packaging option that organizes medications by date and time — helping pet owners stay on track and reducing follow-up burden on your team.

Pouching 101
For clinics, pouching minimizes follow-up calls, clarification requests and dosing questions, helping teams save time while delivering a more reliable pharmacy experience.
What is pouching?
Pouching is a packaging method that organizes a pet's medications into individual dose pouches by date and time. Each pouch contains the correct medications for a specific dosing moment, helping pet owners follow treatment plans accurately and consistently.
What are the benefits of pouching?
Pouch packaging helps pet owners follow treatment plans more consistently by organizing medications into clearly labeled and packaged doses. This reduces confusion, missed doses and errors, leading to better adherence and outcomes.
Frequently Asked Questions

Does pouching cost extra?
No, Koala's pouch packaging is a complimentary option for eligible medications.
Can pouching be used for pets taking multiple medications?
Yes. When appropriate, Koala can organize multiple medications into clearly labeled pouches by date and time, helping pet owners manage more complex treatment plans with confidence.
How can a customer request pouching?
Until pouching can be selected directly during checkout (coming soon!), pet owners can request pouching by calling Koala's Customer Service team after placing an order. Our team will confirm eligibility and ensure medications are packaged accordingly.
How does Koala decide the date on the pouches?
For new prescriptions, Koala sets the pouch start date 10 days after the prescription is received and processed. This buffer allows time to resolve any questions, confirm accuracy and ensure a smooth dispensing experience.
How are dosing times handled?
If no time is specified, Koala applies standard dosing conventions: once daily at 8:00 AM; twice daily at 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM; three times daily at 8:00 AM, 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM. This approach ensures consistency for pet owners while maintaining accuracy and alignment with veterinary guidance.
Is the packaging recyclable?
Koala's outer paper packaging is recyclable and can be disposed of through standard recycling programs. Our pouching materials use less plastic than traditional prescription vials and may be accepted by select recycling facilities. We're committed to continuously exploring more sustainable packaging solutions while maintaining the safety, accuracy and reliability clinics expect.
When Can't We Pouch?
Most medications that we can't pouch fall into three categories.
Pre-packaged medications
This includes preventatives and select tablets or capsules that come in manufacturer-sealed packaging (such as foil blister packs) designed to protect medication integrity.
Hazardous medications
Certain medications are classified as hazardous by national pharmacy boards due to potential risk to humans. These medications cannot safely run through pouching equipment without extensive cleaning between doses, so they are excluded from pouching.
Partial tablet dosing
Medications requiring tablet splits other than whole or half tablets are not eligible for pouching due to dosing verification limitations.
