Lantus Insulin (insulin glargine injection) is an injectable, long-acting insulin for treating diabetes mellitus in dogs and cats. Lantus Insulin controls blood glucose levels to help alleviate the symptoms of diabetes. Lantus “glargine” insulin is known as a "peakless" insulin, in that it is released slowly and at a constant rate. It is used with U-100 insulin syringes only.

Insulin Glargine

Speak with your veterinarian and follow your pet's prescription for specific dosing instructions for your pet. Individualize dosage based on metabolic needs, blood glucose monitoring, glycemic control, type of diabetes prior insulin use. Administer subcutaneously once daily at any time of day, but at the same time every day. Do not dilute or mix with any other insulin or solution. Rotate injection sites to reduce the risk of lipodystrophy. Closely monitor glucose when changing to Lantus and during initial weeks thereafter.

Storage

Store unused Lantus vials in the refrigerator between 36° to 46°F (2° to 8°C). Store in-use (opened) Lantus vials in a refrigerator or at room temperature below 86°F (30°C). Do not freeze Lantus. Keep Lantus out of direct heat and light. If a vial has been frozen or overheated, throw it away. The Lantus vials you are using should be thrown away after 28 days, even if it still has insulin left in it.
